An Interesting Comparison Between the Habits of Birds and Humans
I love to watch documentaries about birds on YouTube. Their habitats, the colors, the evolution from Dinosaurs, apart from the dramatizations of things like Jurassic Park, is really unbelievable and to see how they reached the ability of flying, making them the freest inhabitants of our planet!!!
The Fascinating World of Bird Courtship
But, the aspect that for me is the most fascinating, is the mating season and the various expedients that the males had to come up with to get the... girls!!!
Just forgetting the unique species in which the males build incredible and colorful homes and develop very choreographic ballets to attract the females, I would like to point out another topic: the visual aspects of Males and Females.
The Male Birds' Spectacular Display
The Males have the most spectacular colors in an endless combination that peaks with the best spectacle that a Peacock can offer, that is the most beautiful show ever seen.
But, without going to that top spectacle, the males had an aspect that clearly brings them out from the surrounding vegetation. That is very dangerous because it makes them very visible and interesting, besides the females, also to... predators. But, that is the price they pay to succeed.
The courtship, even without arriving at the best choreography that I was talking about before, it's still laborious and, often, not successful but, with endless attempts, sooner or later they succeed!!!
The Practical Female Birds
Instead, the females are always wearing very modest colors, like gradations of grey or brown, that immerse them mimetically in their surroundings, making them almost invisible.
Apart from the modest look, the real fundamental aspect is that, after having mated, they will be responsible for:
- Raising the chicks
- Starting from the eggs they will deposit in the nest
- For the majority of cases, feeding them until they are able to leave the nest and have their own life
For the females, being as invisible as possible, is fundamental to ensure the continuation of the species.
The Ironic Human Contrast
So, males super beautiful and females the ugliest possible!!!
Sound logic but only for them!!!
Coming to us, totally different. Women try to be as beautiful as possible (fortunately!!!) and men, apart from some exceptions, are just the 'sloppiest' possible!!!
Who cares... sooner or later they will get someone!!! And, without entering into the very dangerous concept of 'natural selection', not necessarily as happens with the birds in which the stronger and healthier male gets the best... girl, for us it has become deeply different and, often, the ugliest (but with a big wallet), gets the most beautiful and that's why, just looking around, ugliness flourishes very quickly but, as I said, it's very dangerous to enter in this "minefield" 😁 😁
