Edith...

When I hear Pavarotti sing "Nessun Dorma" or a chorus perform "Va Pensiero" it's inevitable that tears come to my eyes and, I hope, not only to mine.

But, when Edith Piaf performs (unfortunately only in a footage) "Hymne à l'amour" and these words come...

Nous aurons pour nous l'éternité
Dans le bleu de toute l'immensité
Dans le ciel, plus de problème
Mon amour, crois-tu qu'on s'aime?
Dieu réunit ceux qui s'aiment

...it's like a fountain is coming to my eyes!!!

The Voice That Defies Explanation

Her voice is something... inexplicable. The vocal extension, the 'vibrato', the apparently no effort in reaching the top notes make her... unique and so... unparalleled!!!

Also, very important, she wrote the song with Marguerite Monnot!!! Wow, what an achievement!!! Only this fact, should be enough to make her unforgettable!!!

Here a few rare examples of her singing...

Tributes to Greatness

Only, the Italian singer Gilda Giuliani, was invited to the Olympia in Paris, to sing her song in order to remember her properly:

Also, Celine Dion, almost, had reached that intensity. Here at the Paris Olympic Games...

A Dream of Time Travel

When someone asks me: "If you could go back in time, where would you like to go???"

No doubts at all: not even dreaming to meet Leonardo da Vinci (probably we would not comprehend each other anyway!!!) I would like to be there in the first row at the Olympia in Paris and hear her singing... La vie en rose... Non, je ne regrette rien... Mon Dieu... Milord... and... O.K. I'm there so, please, let me hear in peace!!!!

Marion Cotillard Becomes Edith

This great movie, interpreted by Marion Cotillard "La vie en rose", is an incredible homage to the greatness of Edith Piaf. It's in French but, very easy to comprehend.

Here's a little extract:

She basically, has become... HER!!!!

And, of course, she won an Oscar for that!!!!!

The Universal Language of Music

Anyway, going back to singers that can make you... cry, if you can avoid doing it while listening to this performance, you're... not human so, I'm very sorry for you

And, considering that this is in Korea, I'm beginning to think that, more than the voice (which by the way is really good!!!) it could be that the... Italian language is very musical and sounds very pleasant to hear, no matter what the guest country is. This fact, gives me a great joy because this could be the correct explanation.
