To Transfer Experience Is "Almost" Impossible!!!
What is experience?
Experience is the sum of the facts, good or bad, that already happened to us so, when they happen again, we are supposed to hopefully know what to do.
This also means that the older you are, the more experience you have!!!!
The Value of Experience
After having said that, what is the value of it and what should we do with that?
The value is... IMMENSE!!!!
So, what should we do with that?
And here is the problem.
The Challenge
What to do with that value is very challenging because, to try to give it away, being for free, is hardly appreciated and received!!!
The main obstacle is that, being that the receiver is much younger than us, to be listened to positively is very hard so the message is hardly received and used in all the circumstances in which it should be of some help.
The Barcelona Story
To better be understood, I'll give you an example.
When my daughter was very young, for the first time, she went on vacation with a girlfriend to Barcelona.
Of course, being a little worried about the possible dangers, I tried to give her some advice and the most important was how to take care of these 3 things: PASSPORT, PLANE TICKET and MONEY (Travel Checks) should be put in a money belt and, never EVER, take it off even to go to the bathroom. So, in case, just pull it up on the waist but don't take it away and put it down in some place even if it seems secure and under control.
She seemed to have understood the danger of doing that, taking it away and putting it down.
What did she do the first day in Barcelona?
She went to a public bathroom in a bar and... TOOK OFF THE MONEY BELT and forgot it there!!!!
Obviously, after going back there, the bag was gone!!!!
The Aftermath
Tragedy. Abroad with no documents, no money and no plane ticket. Fortunately, when she went to the Italian Consulate, they gave her some identification, some money and a way to come back to Italy.
Vacation, after a year of hard work and sacrifices to go there, GONE!!!
Why listen to these boring recommendations from dad?? I'm not a baby anymore so, I will do it my way!!!!
The Soccer Lesson
When I was coaching and teaching soccer to kids and teenagers, by having had an important soccer past, I tried to transfer to them my past experiences.
In certain circumstances on the field, better to do this instead of that because I already made that mistake many times!!! Please listen, don't do that again and again, because it's wrong.
Result? A big waste of words and time but, at least, I was getting paid anyway!!!!
The Conclusion
In conclusion, if you don't want to waste your time and words, be absolutely sure to, at least, get paid, possibly a lot!!!!
You will still be sad but, at least, not as much as doing it for free!!!!
