What's the Meaning of Having a Gun?
Two hundred years ago, our country was a continuously evolving laboratory in which laws, rights and duties were a matter of pure opinion.
There being no laws, except the violence of the stronger faction and, consequently, there was no one who could eventually enforce them.
The Past
More than necessary, it was indispensable to possess weapons with which to defend and protect oneself, one's family, livestock, home and territory.
To go around without a weapon was like going around nude, totally unprotected!!!
There was no choice.
The Present
But in a modern society, there's no logical reason to possess a firearm. It's an apparent safety measure that, more often than not, provokes a series of episodes in which the classic conclusion is the accidental death of someone!!!
This someone could be the owner of a store, restaurant or gas station or, unfortunately at times, a group of school children killed by their classmate who was just 'playing' with their father's gun!!!
A Proposal
If we could prohibit the possession of firearms, besides eliminating the risks connected with having firearms in the house, we would create an enormous problem for the criminals that use arms to commit crimes!!!
In fact, just the possession of a weapon should be cause for the requisition and the destruction of it!!! And a successive investigation would determine whether or not the possessor would be only fined or would be arrested!!!
The Illusion of Safety
If you give it some attentive thought, a gun that is in the house to be used in case of an emergency should be loaded and close at hand. What use is an unloaded gun, inside a box in some closet APPARENTLY out of reach of children, with the bullets hidden in another place???
It's useful only to some child who, during the absence of his parents, finds it, loads it and uses it to 'play' with, as he/she saw on the internet or some movie!!!
It's not useful for anything else and, if it's not useful for anything else, there is no reason to possess it!!! So, turning it over to the Police who will destroy it and free our homes of an instrument of death for our children, we'll force criminals to come out in the open, because the simple possession would attest... guilt!!!
Hunting
When I speak of firearms, I'm not only referring to pistols but also rifles and in particular those for hunting. It's unacceptable that in a civil society, we still allow people to kill an animal for fun or pleasure!!!
To hunt is a human instinct??? Then let's create an enclosed territory in some uninhabited place, where there is no danger to others, and give these 'human beings' permission to hunt each other!!!!
We'll let them satisfy their hunting instincts!!!
Let them kill for the pleasure of killing; they'll have their 'prey' and the society will be free of individuals who are extremely dangerous to others.
The Value of Life
They have no respect for life and no one could teach them this, even in a hundred years!!!
If someone's life isn't useful to them, they have every right to throw it away but... their life... not ours or that of a deer, whose only fault was to lift majestically its head among the branches.
If this miracle of beauty and perfection inspired in some people only the desire to... shoot them, then they don't have the right to live, since they despise life so. Let's give them the space and the opportunity to shoot at each other!!!!
Every time they hit 'their target' we'll have one less... idiot and one more deer!!!!
